Key West Photographer Michael Procaccini
Michael Procaccini
Born and raised in northern Ohio, Michael grew up in a boating family, spending summers at the Lake Erie Islands and developing a lifelong love of the water. Winters brought vacations in search of sunshine, planting the seeds that would eventually lead him to the Florida Keys. Key West, with its vibrant charm, soon became a second home. One of Michael’s most cherished childhood memories is crossing the iconic Seven Mile Bridge for the first time, a moment that left an indelible mark on his heart.
Michael’s artistic journey began as a photography student, capturing and developing black-and-white film. Like many, he was inspired by the work of Ansel Adams, yet his own path evolved toward full-color photography. The vibrant hues of the Florida Keys — their ever-changing ocean tones shaped by time, weather, and light — became a powerful muse. As he explored this artistic passion, Michael developed a deep appreciation for other art forms, especially the work of painters who could immortalize a moment in time with brush and canvas.
Over two decades, Key West became his favorite winter destination. Despite exploring breathtaking places from the Caribbean to Maui’s volcanic peaks, it was the unique atmosphere of Key West — its turquoise waters, swaying palms, and colorful characters — that truly captured his soul.
After a successful career focused on providing for his family, Michael decided it was time to follow his passion. With both of his sons off to college, he made the move to Key West, opening his first gallery, Key West Art Gallery & Gifts on Green Street. This venture laid the groundwork for Art on Duval Key West, A Procaccini Gallery, located in the heart of Duval Street.
Michael’s passion for art and connection to meaningful destinations inspired him to expand beyond Key West. He opened Art on Fifth Avenue in Naples, Florida, a city that holds cherished family memories of sun-soaked days and vibrant evenings. Soon after, he launched Art on St. Armands in Sarasota, Florida, another beloved place filled with fond recollections of family adventures. Both galleries celebrate the unique beauty and creative spirit of their communities while continuing Michael’s mission to share the transformative power of art.
Today, Michael’s love for Key West, Naples, and Sarasota remains unwavering. The artists, photographers, musicians, and distinctive characters of these places continue to inspire him. He takes great pride in sharing his galleries’ curated works and cherishes the opportunity to bring pieces of these extraordinary destinations into the homes of art lovers everywhere.
Michael’s personal mantra reflects his approach to life and art:
"Follow your heart, pursue your dreams, always plan for the future, but live for today."
